So here in New Jersey we know land use regulations! Where and what can be built is regulated at the local level through Municipal Land Use Laws, i.e Zoning Laws. In addition, land use in two areas of the state The Pinelands (in the south) and the Highlands (in the North) is regulated by separate agencies. We have Coastal Development regulations, Fresh Wetland regulations, Flood Hazard regulations, building in New Jersey can sometimes, no most times, be an ordeal! Evidently, that is not the case in the libertine state of Texas, just look at the map below. Now who would have thought that building two schools, an apartment complex, a retirement center next to a fertilizer pant would be a bad idea. What could go wrong! Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who were killed and hurt as a result of this tragic accident and maybe next time the folks in Trexas, may consider zoning laws to guide building!
