Genealogical Thoughts about My Roots in Northern Europe!

So over the last few weeks, as I been exploring world news in more depth, I began thinking about the DNA testing my wife and I had done several years ago. The testing showed that I was 99% northern European. The other day though, I went to look at where from northern Europe do people come from who share my DNA. The largest percentages of my DNA comes from Germany and the British Isles, big surprise, on my mother's side her grandparents were from Ireland and England and on my father's side three of his grandparents were from Germany, and one was from Switzerland! While that was a big share of my shared DNA, the majority of the DNA is from unspecific Northern Europe. When you look at the people at 23 and Me who share my DNA, and look at where their grandparents are from, those with 4 grandparents from the same country come from:

Switzerland
United Kingdom
Ireland
Germany
Finland
Belarus

The only surprises there are Finland and Belarus! Then when you go down a notch and look at people where 3 plus grandparents come from the same country, the list of countries expands to:

Switzerland
Germany
Ireland
Norway
Denmark
Netherlands
Lebanon
Finland
Belgium
Belarus
Ukraine
New Zealand
Italy
United States
Poland
Austria
Spain
Portugal
Hungary

So while my closest ancestral roots are mainly in the four countries of Germany, the United Kingdom and Ireland the branches of my family DNA tree, go all over Northern Europe!! So while I may not be a child of the world I do appear to be a child of Northern Europe! Now if I could only figure out how it all ties together!
